I’ve been not been very active on social media but I happened to see posts about rapper Lil Nas x’s new video which came out on “Holy Week”. The video has caused a lot of outrage because of the content. I haven’t watched it because I understand how powerful what you watch is but I decided to read up about Lil Nas x whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill.
His parents divorced at age 6 and he moved to live with his dad at age 9 because he was a “troubled kid”. His dad is apparently a Gospel singer. I listened to one of his songs about “the Lord’s Prayer and it’s really beautiful .
The question many will ask is how is it possible that the son of a Gospel singer has put out the one of the most controversial videos. As if this is not enough he also sold out on exclusive modified Nike shoes that have a drop of blood, 666 and the pentagon on it.
As sad as this is I’m not surprised that his dad is a gospel singer because the devil does not care about us but is interested in winning over our kids.
From what I read Montero Lamar Hill struggled with his sexuality and prayed that it was just a phase but then he came to accept it.
I read something that stood out which was one of his replies to criticism about his video
The day after Lil Nas X released the music video, he responded to the backlash over its rebellious religious imagery. “I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the s**t y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay,” he wrote. “So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”
I see a child who was confused about his sexual identity from a young age. He may have been abused as a child hence his decision to be gay but we can’t say for sure. But anyway I see a child who was most likely judged and condemned because of his confusion and his temptations. It may have been the things he heard “Christians” say will happen to people who are gay. If only he had a safe space to open up about his struggles when it was still a struggle or a temptation. If only someone showed Him the love of Jesus and that Jesus loved Him and would help him over come his struggles as opposed to Jesus sending him to hell because of his struggles.
I see a child that was left alone in the dark for the enemy to corner and take advantage of. Now because of his anger at a God he thinks hates him, he is doing everything he can to do what was done to him. It’s a typical example of why most of the most vocal or aggressive atheists were believers at one time of their life.
The other day I was sharing with one of my kids about my first and only confession when I was younger. Can’t remember the age for sure but maybe 16-8. I grew up Catholic and so I went to confession for the first time and confessed to the Priest about sexual immorality. I can’t remember what I said but I had already had sex at about 17 or 18 so that’s probably what I went to confess. The way the priest reacted could have made me walk away from God but for grace. After my confession in the most aggressive way He said get away from me you filthy dog…….. I was so embarrassed. It’s no wonder I never went back to confession. Thankfully it didn’t affect my relationship with the Father and I got to know the Fathers love for me. In contrast when I was much older in my early thirties and went to speak to my Pastor, Pastor Wale Adefarasin about committing adultery in my marriage. He showed me the love of a Father and said to me “temptation is not a sin”. I speak in detail about this in my first book “The Richer Woman”.
I left his office feeling soooooo loved by God. Infact in my book I recount how I felt the mercy and love of the father when I decided to tell my husband about the temptations. God led my husband to prophecy over me at Church that I was a good thing and I felt like I was unworthy to receive that much mercy & grace and eventually when I told Him about two years later all He did was hug me and pray for me.
If only Lil Nas x had experienced the love of God when He was struggling with his temptations about his sexual identity. If only He was told that Jesus loves Him and that He should come as He is.
We have so much work to do, to spread the message of love regardless of people’s sin so they can come as they are to Jesus. Oh we have so much work to do. There are so many like Lil Nas that need help before they become a tool in the enemies camp. The devil is waiting with open arms to embrace them. Parents ensure your kids can come to talk about their struggles with you no matter how bizzare it may seem. Also tell them about the love of Christ and not the consequences of sin.
So many are struggling with so much and we must let them know that the Father loves them so much.
The Bible says in John 15:13
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
Jesus died for Lil Nas X and everyone with a struggle whether it’s homosexuality, lust, fornication, adultery, drugs, alcholol, Porn, rape, paedophilia etc.
He died for you so that you won’t go to hell. Your sins or your temptations is not what would take you to hell. Yes even if you have committed a sin. Not accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior is what leads you to hell not your sin. He has paid the price for your sin through His blood.
Don’t feel that you have to overcome your sin before you come to Him. Come as you are. Come with your sin. Just don’t stay away from Him. It’s in His presence that He will help you over once. His grace is sufficient for you.
I pray that Lil Nas x finds Jesus even in the midst of so much darkness.
