What is so good about Good Friday

What is so good about Good Friday?

I remember when I was young, I wondered why we would call a day that Jesus died Good. It should be called bad Friday as I have grown in my relationship with Jesus, I’ve found that truly this is a day worth celebrating.

Today I decided to read the part in the Bible where Jesus was crucified. I wanted God to remake something new to me. I happened to read John 18-19 and I received a new revelation of His goodness.

Today God highlighted Pontious Pilate to me in this story for the very first time. After Jesus was seized by Judas and the Pharisees, they took Him to Annas and then Caiphas the High Priest. They asked Jesus questions about His disciples & His teaching but He didn’t answer them. Eventually they took Him to Pilate. Jesus revealed Himself to Pilate. He told Pilate who He was. He told Pilate that He is King.

Pilate then referred to Him as King several times even in front of the angry Jews. It was Pilate that ensured that He wrote on placard “JESUS the Nazarene, KING OF THE JEWS for all to see. Infact the Chief Jews challenged Pilate to change it but he replied “What I have written, I have written”.

I believe that Pilate became a believer that day. He became a believer the last hour.  Jesus revealed Himself to Pilate who recognized who He is.

I believe Jesus is doing the same this last hour. The picture for this post is the cross that survived the fire in Notre Dame. The cross survived a great fire. Even as horrifying as the fire that burnt Notre Dame is, it is definitely a symbol of what Jesus is doing in this last hour. He is removing structure and religion and He is revealing Himself. He is bringing back the lost to Himself. In this last hour He is revealing Himself to many, so that they too can believe and know Him as the King of Kings. He is also removing religion and reconciling the hearts of His children back to Him.

Today is a good day, it is a very good day. It is a good good day.

I pray that even as we celebrate the goodness of Jesus today and in this last hour we reflect on the lyrics of this beautiful song by Cody Carnes tilted “Nothing Else”.

I’m caught up in Your presence

I just want to sit here at Your feet

I’m caught up in this holy moment

I never want to leave

Oh, I’m not here for blessings

Jesus, You don’t owe me anything

More than anything that You can do

I just want You

I’m sorry when I’ve just gone through the motions

I’m sorry when I just sang another song

Take me back to where we started

I open up my heart to You

I’m sorry when I’ve come with my agenda

I’m sorry when I forgot that You’re enough

Take me back to where we started

I open up my heart to You

I’m caught up in Your presence

I just want to sit here at Your feet

I’m caught up in this holy moment

I never want to leave

Oh, I’m not here for blessings

Jesus, You don’t owe me anything

And more than anything that You can do

I just want You

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else

Nothing else will do

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else

Nothing else will do

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else

Nothing else will do

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else, Jesus

Nothing else will do

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else

Nothing else will do

I just want You

Nothing else, nothing else, Jesus

Nothing else will do

I’m coming back to where we started

I’m coming back to where we started

When I first felt Your love

You’re all that matters, Jesus

You’re all that matters

I’m coming back to what really matters

Just Your heart

I just want to bless Your heart, Jesus

I’m caught up in Your presence

I just want to sit here at Your feet

I’m caught up in this holy moment

I never want to leave

And oh, I’m not here for blessings

Jesus, You don’t owe me anything

More than anything that You can do

Oh, I just want You – Lyrics to Nothing Else by Cody Carnes #thefathersdaughter #goodfriday
