Are You Taking Up Your Cross?

In today’s world, the idea of taking up a cross is a bit foreign to us. Not only would that illustration seem archaic, but the concept of genuinely taking up responsibilities and consequences is a bit too farfetched for a microwave generation. Yet, Jesus indicated very clearly in his teachings, that the only way to genuinely follow Him is to take up your own cross. That is interesting commentary, seeing that our all-time example took up a cross on our behalf, and then tells us we have to do the same.

Matthew 16:24-27

‘’Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever would save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what shall a man be profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give in exchange for his life? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds’’.

The fact that being the Father’s daughter calls you to a higher life ought not to be lost on us. Living for the Father, and as His beloved has all the best advantages in the world but also has its requirements. You cannot live a semi sold out life. If you are living for God, and if you decide to live as the Father’s daughter, you definitely have to be willing and ready to surrender your all to Him. Living for God means totally surrendering your will to His and what He says to do. His word is final authority in every situation.

Letting go of the reins of your own life can seem like a very difficult task until you realize that in and by yourself, you will probably and almost definitely lead your own self down the wrong path, but the promise of the Father is the exact opposite of that. With the Father, you have the right to access clear and certain direction for your life, your finances, your academics, relationships, career, business and every other aspect of your life. You can be entirely assured of His plans and purposes for you and you can be confident enough, expecting Him to show up on your behalf, as long as you are in sync with His will, plans and purposes for you. The all popular scripture says:

Jeremiah 1:5

‘’Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.’’

The Message Translation puts it this way:

“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations– that’s what I had in mind for you.”

You can be well assured of God’s plans for your lie. There is assurance in this provision.

Jeremiah 29:11

‘’For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.’’

Romans 8:28

‘’And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’’

He has great and wonderful plans for you and He is on your side. Settle this in your heart. But to partake of these plans, you need to walk the way He has prescribed. There is a self-denial part that comes with your walk with Christ to be able to fully access all of God’s promises and fully stand in your prophetic destiny. You have to stop submitting to the lusts of the flesh and pay your dues appropriately. Remember Christ has told us that ‘’His yoke is easy and His burden is light.’’

Matthew 11:29-30

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Every step you take; every move you make is very crucial to fulfilling God’s grand plans for your life. As the Father’s daughter, your responsibility is to fully take up your cross and follow Him to fulfil your mandate and find the rest for your soul.

God will only give you rewards up to extent to which you have aligned with fulfilling His assignment for you. Take His yoke upon yourself today. Determine to pay absolute attention to His will and His ways. Let Him be the guide and direction provider for your life, and you will definitely fulfil your assignment here on earth.

  1. Have I taken up my cross in following Jesus?
  2. Do I know how to seek first the kingdom knowing that all things are mine?
  3. Am I well assured of God’s plans for my life?
  4. Am I letting the Father be my priority in life?

I am sold out to the Father’s plans for my life. I am fully focused on God, His desires and His Kingdom, knowing fully well that He has my best interests in mind always.
